2010 Reserve Sangiovese
One of Italy’s premier red varietals, Sangiovese is however scare in California. I first planted this variety in the Sonoma Valley over 35 years ago. By limiting the yield, patience at harvest and delicate oak aging, we produce a full-flavored, velvety wine of intense fruit, full tannins and balanced wood tones.
Being we do not have a tasting room (with only 1,200 case per year production), not all of our wines are always available for purchase. Some of our wines, I've tucked away in our Wine Library for Special Occasions.
This wine is what we call a “sleeper.” It required 3 years of bottle age to really show itself. On the younger side it was scattered and the luscious components that make a Sangiovese superb had not come together yet. After winning a Double Gold Medal at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair, a judge shared the following comment with us. “I was so impressed with this wine, I had to bring the remaining portion home to my husband and friends to taste. This wine is almost perfectly made…”
This 100% sustainably farmed, 100% barrel aged, 100% Sangiovese is a deep garnet red in color, It has an extra long finish with flavors of black cherry cordials, hibiscus tea, and a hint of white pepper. It's fruit flavors last almost as long as the spice and earthy elements. After the flavors fade, a soft, crushed velvet dryness remains.
